    Based on a new study from Counterpoint Research, Apple AirPods are favored as the leading wireless earbuds in 2025. According to the report, AirPods controlled 36% of the worldwide market revenue last year, putting Apple at the top of the category.

    Apple finished in second place among shipments, behind the Indian brand boAt. Apple continued to generate most of its revenue from units it shipped abroad, while boAt sold more in its home market, India, at lower costs.

    There was enough demand for Android alternatives for Samsung to place third on the list with its Galaxy Buds. Xiaomi and Skullcandy both finished among the top five companies for a number of units sold.

    2024 saw the wireless earbuds market’s shipments increase by 6% and its revenue increase by 3%. Budget-friendly choices, not luxurious ones, were most responsible for this growth, mostly happening in Asia and Latin America. Yet, the premium sector, dominated by Apple, kept performing well due to users wanting more features and better sound in their headphones.

    Experts at Counterpoint believe that the market will expand in 2025. While more people want low-cost and mid-range earbuds, AirPods and similar products will stay preferred in the U.S. and Europe.

    Because it aims for quality and loyal followers, Apple beats out others, even with lower-priced phones entering the market.

More and more, Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi are becoming popular among customers in this region. Moreover, thanks to the Mate 60 Pro 5G, Huawei has easily outpaced other devices and regained first place. Huawei’s sales rose by 70% compared to how it was doing last year.

    While Apple’s share dropped, brands such as Honor and Xiaomi grew. While other companies saw sales increase in China, Apple alone suffered large losses this quarter.

    Many experts believe that Chinese people prefer local phones mainly due to feeling proud of their own products and because of new technology. At the same time, the latest iPhone 15 was not widely appealing in China, and Apple’s old phones didn’t improve the situation.

    The company is hoping that its plans for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and AI in iOS 18 will lead to a rise in sales. At the same time, rising competition at home and problems with China make it difficult for Apple in its third-largest market.

    Simon Hill from Wired tested a working version and loved it. He tried a Xiaomi 35-mm f/1.4 lens paired with a 100-megapixel sensor—way bigger than anything in phones today. It has a flexible aperture, perfect for dim lighting. Hill said it attached like a MagSafe wallet and felt like using a real camera, with sharp results to match.

    It comes with an autofocus motor—just tap the screen to pick your focus. Plus, there’s a physical ring for hands-on adjustments. In Pro mode, it worked as smoothly as the phone’s regular camera, letting Hill focus on objects near and far for a soft, natural background blur. We don’t know if Xiaomi will sell this lens, but I’m sold on the idea. Imagine Apple teaming up with Nikon, Canon, or Sony to make one for iPhones. It’d be a game-changer for phone photography!

    In that period, Apple managed to ship about 16.9 million iPads, an increase from the 14.8 million shipped the year before. Samsung came in second, with approximately 7 million units shipped, which gave them 17.8 percent of the market. Following Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei, and Xiaomi took the third, fourth, and fifth spots.

    Over the entire year of 2024, Apple’s total shipment was around 57 million iPads, capturing 38.6 percent of the market share. This was more than double the number of tablets shipped by Samsung, who managed 27.8 million units.

    In 2024, Apple updated its top-tier iPad Pro with an M4 chip and gave the iPad mini a boost with an A17 Pro chip, while the iPad Air was enhanced with an M2 chip. Looking ahead to 2025, Apple is set to introduce updates to its budget-friendly iPad and give another refresh to the iPad Air.

    Apple drops to third in China’s smartphone market due to declining sales

    Apple has seen a big drop in iPhone sales in China, moving from the top spot to third place in the last three months of 2024. According to a report from Counterpoint Research, iPhone sales in China decreased by 18.2% compared to the previous year in the fourth quarter of 2024.

    This left Apple with a 17.1% share of the market, behind Huawei with 18.1% and Xiaomi with 17.2%. Just a year before, Apple was leading with a 19% share. This is the first time since the U.S. banned Huawei that Apple has been outranked by a Chinese company.

    Several reasons explain Apple’s struggles in China. One is the tough competition from local brands, and another is that Apple’s new “Apple Intelligence” feature, launched with the iPhone 16 in September 2024 in the U.S., isn’t available in China because of local laws.

    Apple might work with Chinese companies to offer these features later. Meanwhile, Huawei has done well, growing by 15.5% thanks to AI in their Mate 70 and Nova 13 phones. The overall smartphone market in China also shrank by 3.2% in the same quarter, being the only period in 2024 with less growth.

    Despite this, Apple held onto third place, with sales figures close to Xiaomi’s.
