Nintendo Switch shortage could get worse due to ‘uncertain’ semiconductor production plans

Nintendo says its current production plans for the Nintendo Switch are “uncertain” due to a current semiconductor shortage. The company said it could not meet console demand.

Current semiconductor shortages continue to be a headache for the gaming world, slowing console production. The Nintendo Switch was already hard to come by last year, but recent investor questions suggest the problem is getting worse.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa told investors that although the company is able to achieve sustainable production by 2020, it is working hard to maintain it.

“Hardware demand continues to exceed our expectations even after the start of this calendar year,” Furukawa told investors, adding that production currently does not meet this high demand due to tight supply and demand conditions for semiconductor materials worldwide. Although we are currently trying to produce more units, our production plans are more uncertain than at the beginning of the last financial year. “

Furukawa specifically attributed the manufacturing problem to the shortage of semiconductors, noting that “the company is currently unable to meet this high demand due to tight supply and demand conditions.”

This week, Sony shared similar sentiments, warning that the current PS5 shortage could continue until 2022.

This report raises questions about Nintendo’s 2021 plans. Recent reports suggest that Nintendo is currently featuring a new model of the Nintendo Switch in the works that will be released this year. As strong as the product is, Nintendo can make the new system comprehensive.
