Google Photos now allow users to adjust sharpness and denoise an image

There are a bunch of new advanced features and editing tools added for pictures and videos in Google Photos in the past few months. Now, the service seems to be introducing more tools that allow users to manipulate images according to their preferences.

Google Photos has silently added new tools to sharpen images and reduce noise. When you click “Edit” on the picture and go to “Adjust”, navigating to the end of the carousel will now show the options for “Sharpening” and “Noise Reduction”. The sharpening tool will make the image look sharper. The noise reduction tool will reduce the particles that sometimes accompany the image in low light conditions.

The function increments of these two new options are both between 0 and 100, allowing users to control how many specific functions are applied. When using methods such as sharpening, you usually don’t want to use too many colors, otherwise, the image will quickly appear false.

Of course, art is subjective, so if you like more sharpening techniques, you can definitely try it. With modern smartphone cameras, the software has already done a lot of sharpening and denoising (and other adjustments), so you may not want to use these features too much.

But they are undoubtedly a good choice. These new editing tools seem to be part of the server-side update, so you will see them in the next few days. It’s worth mentioning that we saw a new option on one of the devices. It is not clear if the latest tool will be placed behind the paywall once it is fully launched.

Google Photos has been slowly improving the editing tools available in the service, but some of these tools can only be accessed if you are subscribed to Google One. Currently, the option of sharpening and denoising the image seems to be free, but if the situation changes, we will pay close attention.
