Google translate gets new phrasebook layout with Android 12 Material You Design update

Although Google has released Material You updates to many of its applications over the past few months, some have been left out. This includes Google Translate. Well, that’s changing now as the company now sends long-term improvements to its popular translation app. However, there is a caveat.

First spotted by the folks at 9to5Google, the content you’ve redesigned can only be selected for the Pixel 6. The changes are from version 6.25.0.02.4044801591 Translate, which is now widely distributed through the Google Play Store.

Users will first notice the most obvious changes based on the color schemes that now interact with your phone’s background image. The layout was also updated with better language switch options and a focus on text translation.

Google Translate is changing from Material Design for 2014

At the bottom of the screen are three keys that you can translate with camera, voice, or enable interpreter mode. Users can access translation history from the top, while there is also the option of typing words on the screen, preferably with a typewriter.

Although the update seems to be coming out of the Pixel 6 series only, it should be available on other devices in the coming days. It is safe to say that Google Translate has not seen any significant improvements since 2014. This effectively means that the application changes from Material Design to Material You.

Android 12 brings a ton of new changes to the front besides Material You. It also includes important security and privacy-related improvements. This week, older Pixel phones began to receive an update featuring a redesigned security hub from Android 12. This brings a visual fix to the Security panel within the Settings page.

Android Private Compute Core is also starting to appear with Android 12. This allows the OS to run sensitive tasks on the device rather than using cloud resources. Features such as Live Captures, Smart Responses, etc., depend on this feature.
