Microsoft Edge introduces Kids Mode, a safer space for your child to discover the web

Microsoft has announced the full-fledged launch of significant innovation in its proprietary browser – Kids Mode has appeared in Microsoft Edge. In March, the feature became available to users of the beta version of Microsoft Edge, and now it works in stable builds. The browser offers a kind of “sandbox” designed for age groups from 5 to 8 years old and from 9 to 12 years old.

To switch the browser to kid mode, you need to go to your Edge account profile, select “View in kid mode” and specify the age group from 5 to 8 years old, or from 9 to 12 years old.

As the developers promise, both age groups by default adhere to the most stringent level of protection, allow you to prevent tracking, blocking most trackers to ensure privacy, and a minimum amount of personalized advertising. In addition, text, images, and videos that do not match the age category will be removed from the search results.

A special feature of the regime for the older age range (9-12) is the corresponding news feed on the new tab page with specially selected articles for children, which are devoted to animals, science, interesting facts, and so on.

By default, there are about 70 popular children’s sites available in Kids Mode, but users can customize their own list. If a child tries to navigate to a site outside of this allowed list, they will be greeted by a special block page encouraging them to ask their parents for permission.

In the child mode, the browser received an adapted interface. In addition, custom Disney and Pixar themes were developed based on the beloved animated films Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Cars, Toy Story, and Coco’s Secret. More themes will be developed in partnership with Disney in the coming months.
