New Telegram update allows users to import chat history from WhatsApp and other messaging apps

WhatsApp has recently sent in-app privacy policies to its users that you can’t ignore in order to continue using the app. As a result of this new policy, many users have started to switch to other messaging apps such as Signal and Telegram.

Taking the advantage of the situation, Signal and Telegram are also trying to gather more and more audience on their side. According to the latest information, Telegram has silently released an update that will now allow its users to import their chat history from other messaging apps including WhatsApp.

In addition to this, the new update also brings improvements to enhance the user’s experience while using Telegram. You can now greet users with one tap by sending the desired sticker, report fake groups or channels, and much more. With a few steps, you will be able to export your chats from WhatsApp to Telegram. Here’s how you can do so on your iOS and Android device.

For Android users

  • Android users have to open WhatsApp then go to the chat or group you want to export and then tap the three dots at the top corner.
  • Then go to the ‘More’ option and select ‘Export Chat’, once the share menu appears, select the Telegram on the menu.

For iOS users:

  • Go to the chat you want to export in WhatsApp. Then go through the option in the chat and go for the export option similar to the Android
  • Now select the Telegram app from ‘iOS Share Sheet’, it will then give you the option of where you want to import your chat, such as your own chat, a new group, or any other chat.
  • After the process is done you will then be able to see your messages and media in the chat you choose. The new messages will be marked as imported.
