YouTube video titles, descriptions and captions could soon be available in several local languages

YouTube introduces timed emoji reactions for Android and iOS users

Before promoting new features to a wider audience, YouTube often tests a small number of its users. In the past few months, the platform has conducted many such tests, such as hiding the number of dislikes in some videos, new editing features, and so on.

YouTube has now begun testing another cool new feature that will automatically translate video titles, descriptions, subtitles, etc. into your native language.

According to Android Police, the new feature is currently only available to some users, and a translation pop-up window has popped up on both the web interface and the mobile application. Tapping or clicking this pop-up window will automatically translate the video title, description, and subtitles into your native language.

Currently, this feature seems to only support translation from English to Portuguese. As you can see in the attached screenshot, this function can also switch the view count, subscriber count, button text, etc. In fact, this should make it easier for users to browse the application.

As of now, YouTube has not shared any official information about this automatic translation feature. But we hope to learn more in the coming weeks. Although this feature currently only supports translation from English to Portuguese, it should support more language combinations before preparing for prime time.

YouTube may use Google Translate to achieve this feature. Since the translation supports multiple languages, it is safe to say that YouTube will also provide support for more languages in the final version.

If you find an automatic translation on your device in the comments section below, please let us know and make sure you mention the language options available to you. If you haven’t seen this feature yet, updating the YouTube app may not be of much use as it appears to be part of a server-side change.
