In April this year, before the spring new product launch conference, Apple has reminded authorized distributors to prepare for new products with 10 or 12-digit random serial numbers to ensure that “systems, warehouses, and processes have been In place, two serial number formats can be received and shipped”.

Apple’s new purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini currently on display in the Apple Store have begun to use 10-digit random serial numbers.

Previously, Apple products used a 12-digit serial number format. Although this alphanumeric format looks random on the surface, it actually contains key production information such as production date and time.

With the new random serial number format, such information will be more difficult to decipher. Apple previously stated that this format will initially start with 10 digits.
