Apple iOS 16.5 fixes a major security bug for iPhone users

Apple iPhone users were dealing with a nasty security issue but thanks to iOS 16.5 update that not only brings useful features but fixes as well. As per the latest inputs, Apple has addressed a security fix with the recent software version and made the device system more stable.

The story outline begins in August last year when two major vulnerabilities came into existence. Accordingly, these were able to allow a rogue application to execute code with kernel privileges which might result in data leaks and malicious attacks.

Following the new version, Apple released iOS 15.6.1 in the same month to provide important security fixes. The update changelog of that build read the below-mentioned statement.

“Impact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.”

However, this solution didn’t work and the vulnerability was the same to date. To make this concept more clear, let’s learn how serious the issue is and can affect your device:

[Both exploits allow] an attacker to exploit other issues and vulnerabilities within the AP Kernel. Though it’s not sufficient for a full device takeover on its own, this vulnerability can be exploited to leverage the co-processor in order to obtain read/write privileges to the kernel, allowing a bad actor to get closer to realizing their ultimate goal of fully compromising the device.
