Apple published new patent that is expected to enable VR display support to iPhone and iPad

Apple’s recent invention patent successfully passed the application and was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The title of the patent is “Electronic Product Display Device Split Screen Display Driving Technology”, which shows a method of dividing the device screen into two parts and independently driving them.

This patent helps solve the problems of screen drive delay and smear and provides a smoother 3D VR picture. In this patent, Apple stated that using red and blue, polarized glasses to watch 3D movies, it is difficult to avoid the problem of artifacts and even cause the viewer to feel dizzy.

It is very difficult to display 3D content on a mobile phone or tablet, but Apple has overcome the challenge and is able to watch 3D VR images on iPad and iPhone without wearing 3D glasses.

The patent controls the two halves of the screen separately from the hardware driver level. And developed related control signals and circuits. This can speed up the response time of the left and right eye images and reduce problems such as smearing and flickering.

This method can make the two parts of the screen output similar pictures at the same time. Put the device into the VR device and watch the two pictures separately to get the 3D effect. The patent does not describe which auxiliary equipment is required for VR video display.

Compared to this invention patent, there are rumors that Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to have a higher refresh rate screen than 120Hz, which will bring smoother effects to games and operations. In addition, Apple’s folding screen iPhone is expected to be officially launched in 2023.
