A man in Texas is filing a lawsuit against Apple for allegedly selling defective batteries and breaching its warranty commitments after his iPhone exploded in the face in 2019.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Thursday, claiming that the iPhone 6’s battery “has defects that prevent it from performing its functions reliably.” It continues to claim that the defect “created a risk of explosion and fire.”
According to the complaint, the plaintiff Robert Franklin of Hopkins County, Texas exploded his iPhone 6 device in August 2019. “When he picked up the iPhone to investigate, it suddenly exploded and caught fire.”

The complaint continued that the incident injured the plaintiff’s eyes and wrists. The latter injury occurred because the fire caused him to fall. During this time, Franklin used his hands to support himself.
The complaint said: “Due to a defective battery, the plaintiff’s iPhone 6 was unsafe to operate and was destroyed by the explosion.”
According to reports, the plaintiff suffered economic losses due to the incident. The cost includes the cost of replacing the iPhone, as well as the medical expenses for his injury.
