Sony adds support for DualSense controller to work on Apple devices for PS5 remote play

Sony has made a gift for fans of the PS Remote Play service by adding support for a DualSense game controller paired with Apple devices. PS Remote Play was originally available as an exclusive to the Sony Xperia Z series.

It allowed some devices, such as the Xperia Z3, to connect to a PlayStation 4 game console on the same network and stream console games to a smartphone. Users can play with either a DualShock 4 controller or on-screen buttons.

In October 2019, Remote Play became available for all Android and iOS devices, and support for the PlayStation 5 arrived a year later. However, for most of the 8 months that have passed since then, only the DualShock 4 controller could be used, even when streaming from the PlayStation 5.

Now Sony has finally addressed this issue with DualSense support for PS Remote Play on Apple devices. The new DualSense controller that ships with the Sony PlayStation 5 is supported in PS Remote Play on all Apple devices with the latest iOS 14.5 and macOS Big Sur 11.3 updates, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, and Mac.

Judging by user feedback, only basic tactile feedback is supported so far, as well as the built-in microphone, headphone jack, and speakers are not yet working when playing games remotely.
