Intel Xe-HPG PCB for DG2 GPU lineup surfaced in live images

Intel is now working on the development of the DG2 series based on the Xe-HPG (gaming) architecture. Due to the provision of confidential sources of early information and engineering sample photos, Moore’s Law is dead. Information is often released in this series.

Last month, the leaker revealed the first photo of the Xe-HPG DG2-512EU graphics card, which is the flagship configuration of the upcoming mobile and desktop series. Obviously, the card being photographed is in the form of a discrete desktop. However, Moore’s Law states that the engineering sample is very different from the final retail version that is now expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2022, which remains to be seen.

Today, YouTuber revealed the first photo of the graphics card PCB. It is not a front image, but a back image. Only the basic component layout can be seen here. The length of the PCB is much longer than the current NVIDIA RTX 30 series, but considering this is an engineering sample, this is not surprising.

The PCB supports dual 8-pin power connectors. These connectors have been soldered, but there is still extra space. This may be a remnant of early samples, Intel may delete something in the future (this also helps to reduce the size of the PCB).

We have already seen the DG2-128 and DG2-384 charts. These numbers indicate the number of execution units on each GPU, but a total of three GPU variants are expected in the DG2 series. The 384EU and 512EU variants will have the same package, which means they will occupy the same space on the PCB.

We made a quick comparison to see if it is correct. The sizes of DG2-512EU and 384EU GPUs are indeed the same. However, since the 512EU model has 8 memory modules (256-bit bus) and the 384EU model has 6 (192-bit bus), the difference between the memory layouts is small.

This is likely to be the same as the card that the leaker has posted and posted last month. We can see that both cards have a green PCB, which is a common theme of engineering samples. In addition, Moore’s Law says that Intel’s Xe-HPG series will be released in the first quarter of this year.

However, we are likely to see a new message in the second half of 2021, which more or less reflects Intel’s commitment. However, when this competition is most needed (for example, when there is no inventory), Intel will not compete with AMD and NVIDIA in the high-end desktop and mobile GPU space.

YouTuber reiterated his previous statement that the codename of the successor to DG2 is “Elasti”. This may be the internal code name of the DG3 series, which has appeared in previous leaks. Finally, it is mentioned that Intel is developing new software for “smooth frame delivery”. Judging from its name, this may theoretically be Intel’s response to NVIDIA Reflex and Radeon Boost to reduce latency in the game.
