Samsung Exynos 2200 with AMD GPU coming in H2 this year

Samsung Exynos Connect U100

Recently, there have been reports that Samsung is preparing to launch a new Galaxy Book laptop in the near future, which may be equipped with an ARM-based Exynos 2200 SoC chip. However, these PCs are expected to be launched in the second half of this year, and the next-generation Galaxy phones will also be equipped with AMD GPUs for the Exynos 2200.

Now, according to TomsHardware, Exynos 2200 will be Samsung’s first chipset with AMD RDNA architecture GPU. Although it will be manufactured using the company’s own 5nm LPE process, it is the same as the existing Exynos 2100 process.

It is worth mentioning that Exynos 2100 uses one Cortex-X1, three Cortex-A78, and four Cortex-A55 cores. At the same time, the notebook version of the SoC is expected to have a higher frequency or integrate multiple X1 super cores to improve performance.

At the same time, the “Korea Economic Daily” reported: “The new Exynos will provide improved features through the use of 5-nanometer processing technology, including extraordinary computing power and battery efficiency. This is beneficial to both laptops and smartphones.”

The report also suggests that the area of the Exynos 2200 SoC chip is expected to be much larger than that of the Exynos 2100, which implies its higher manufacturing cost and power consumption. Although due to its good heat dissipation capability, the chip is expected to achieve higher burst frequencies in notebook computers.

In addition, the detonator previously claimed that compared with Exynos 2100, Samsung Exynos 2200 is expected to achieve a 125% increase in CPU performance and a 250% increase in GPU performance, which is stronger than Apple A14 and Qualcomm 8cx.
