In February, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S20 series. In less than 2 months, we now start hearing rumors about the next year’s Samsung’s flagship series – Samsung Galaxy S21.
According to a rumor, the Galaxy S21 could come with an improved front camera compared to the Galaxy S20 devices. The South Korean company could bring an improved front camera with a bigger sensor and optical image stabilization.

Samsung is currently testing two prototypes of the upcoming device with OIS, one with a 1/2-inch sensor (probably 48MP resolution) and the other featuring a 1/2.55-inch sensor (probably 12MP resolution).
A recent report also suggests that the company could bring an under-display selfie camera with a larger sensor in the Galaxy S21.

What is optical image stabilization?
A technology for cameras that physically moves the camera lens to compensate for camera movement.
Any time a camera takes a photo, the image is captured over a period of time. That period of time is extremely short when working with ample light. But in low light, the period of time is usually longer, often long enough that even the smallest hand movement can blur the photo. So while OIS can be used for all photos, it’s most useful in low light.
OIS uses a tiny gyroscope to detect those small hand movements and direct small actuators (motors) to move the lens in real-time, in the opposite direction, to compensate. This keeps the image steady for the camera sensor even though the camera has moved.
