Since its first launch in 2017, Google Lens has been seamlessly integrated into Google’s Android and many other smartphones. One of the most useful features may be to translate text into pictures and screenshots.
Although the Google Translate app has provided this feature for a long time, Google Lens added the feature to the camera app and made it accessible from any part of the UI. But this not only allows you to translate the picture but also the screenshot of part of the screenshot. Now, the screenshot user interface on Google Pixel phones makes this easier.
Now, when taking a screenshot, if the phone detects that your screenshot contains text written in a foreign language, the bottom user interface will provide you with a “translate” button next to “share” and “edit”. Then it will automatically detect the text and translate it into English. From there, it will allow you to copy the translated text or download a foreign language to allow offline translation.

Having this feature is very useful. If you are reading content in another language and want to translate it quickly without actually copying the text and moving it to the Google Translate app (or even if the text is written as an image and cannot be copied), this feature allows you to take a screenshot, click “Translate”, and you can complete the operation in a few seconds.
Images without text will not pop up the button, because Google Lens will look for the text before providing a translation. Of course, it’s not perfect yet, because 9to5Google reports that the button sometimes pops up when the screenshot shows English text.
The feature seems to have been rolled out to Pixel users running stable Android 11, but if you haven’t already, it may take some time to reach your device. This feature seems to be associated with the server-side flag in the device personalization service.
