After more than a decade of debate on a universal charger for all devices, the European Union has officially reached an agreement on the issue. From the end of 2024, new rules requiring USB-C as a universal charger for all smartphones such as the iPhone will go into effect across Europe.

The new EU agreement includes USB-C ports for mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, digital cameras, and more; harmonization of fast charging technology; and separation of charger sales from device sales.
Recently, the revealer @LeaksApplePro said that Apple will try to use the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 series, of which the iPhone 15 Pro will use the USB-C port, and the iPhone 15 will continue to use the Lightning port; while the iPhone 16 will use the USB-C port, The iPhone 16 Pro switches to a USB-C port or no port, and the Lightning interface is facing an end.
Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he believed that Apple would abandon the Lightning port in the second half of 2023 and switch to a USB-C port. That is to say, next year’s Apple iPhone 15 (Pro) series will be the first iPhone model to use the USB-C interface.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple is testing a new USB-C device. He believes that Apple is testing the iPhone with the Type-C interface maybe because it is currently facing EU legislation to force the use of the USB-C interface, but it is a pity that the iPhone will not be replaced by a new interface before 2023.
