Nokia X20 won’t include charger in the box

HMD Global recently announced some new cheap smartphones, including the Nokia X series. As we learn more about new devices, what caught our attention is that Nokia X20 will throw the charger out of the box when it is available.

On the Nokia X20 product page, there is a sustainability section that mentions that there is no wall charger in the device box. The company website said: “Excluding plastic wall chargers and using a 100% compostable shell, we have reduced the environmental impact of the Nokia X20.”

This move follows Apple’s similar decision. When the iPhone 12 series was released last year, Apple announced that it would not include earphones or wall chargers in its box. The company said that doing so will reduce packaging, mining, and emissions associated with manufacturing and launching new products.

The idea is to reduce e-waste, which is the same method adopted by Nokia. How much impact these actions will have on the environment remains to be seen. These companies may assume that you already have the correct components to use their equipment. However, if you don’t do this, it means you must purchase these accessories from a third party.

For some people, knowing what’s included in the box and what’s not included can influence the purchase decision. The price of the Nokia X20 is only US$415, making it an affordable device. But then, you must consider finding a wall charger, cables, and anything else you need to keep your device fully charged.

If you haven’t heard the announcement of the Nokia X20, the device is equipped with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display, up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 4470mAh battery, and a quad-camera setup, including Zeiss Optics with a 64MP main camera. The device will be launched next month without a wall charger.
