The Korean giant is also working on some new display formats to optimize capacity. With the new patent application approved by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)(via-LetsGoDigital), here you will find closely examining the concept that Samsung Z Series is reported to have joined foldables.

According to the patent, the display has a unique L-shape when unfolded. But when it is folded, it wraps around the back panel of the screen, almost touching the camera sensor. The display seems to be online even when wrapped around the back panel.

Further the patent documentation reveals that the device uses UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) in its manufacture. This technology with the pre-existing Samsung foldables. Mention is also made of the additional display real estate being used for Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. It is also useful during video calls.

However, it is difficult to imagine a scene where such a dimensional display would be useful. With this in mind, this concept probably will not appear during the day. Regardless, these creations show that Samsung is keen to be at the forefront of the flexible display market.

Samsung Z SeriesMore companies such as OPPO, Honor, Huawei and Xiaomi are also developing foldable. As we know, Samsung continues to dominate the global foldable smartphone market. This is an increase of one percentage point over a year ago, which is why we now have more OEMs making foldable smartphones than ever before.
