Samsung releases Kernel source codes for Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4

Samsung Z Fold Flip 4 March 2023 update

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones with the most advanced features and technologies last month. The company is doing great with the devices and now it is releasing Kernel source codes for both these devices – Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 to help developers add more features and functions.

The current release software versions are AVGA, which are intended for US carrier variants. Practically, none of the Samsung Galaxy smartphones sold in the US can actually have the bootloader unlocked. Unlike global models, these devices are completely locked down.

Kernel source codes are an essential element of Android custom ROM. It allocates resources such as hardware, memory pages, and CPU cycles. It is usually responsible for file system and network communication.

These might not be important to regular smartphone users but are certainly helpful to developers who create third-party custom ROMs (for example LineageOS) for devices. Modifications in sources allow the modding community to come up with custom kernels that add new capabilities that are not offered out of the box.

If you are a developer, you can now go to the Samsung Open Source Release Center and access the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 Kernel source codes. The links are mentioned below.
