Xiaomi patents two smartphones that are totally surrounded by the display

For a long time, we’ve been heard about Xiaomi foldable smartphones. Recently, we reported also that the company will launch three types of foldable smartphones this year.

Now, two patent clips developed by LetsGoDigital show that Xiaomi is working on a Wrap-around display smartphone. We can say that it is an improved version of the Mi Mix Alpha.

The patent has two designs. The difference seems to be the camera, which looks thinner than the Mix Alpha. Additionally, the entire device of the machine is made up of screens, such as Meizu Zero that proved “the phone doesn’t need a power button and interface”.

The first patent shows that a large display is integrated continuously from top to bottom. A vertical frame was installed there, which included the camera system and has long sub-displays on both sides of the device.

However, it is unknown whether these sub-displays also have touch sensors or not. Icons, effects, and animations can be displayed. The device looks thinner than the Mi MIX Alpha and there’s no space for the Power button on the entire screen.

However, the camera configuration remains unknown. Since the phone has a display on both the front and back, the camera can be used to take selfies and make video calls, as well as regular photo and video recording.

The design of the second model is a bit simpler. For example, this time the upward and downward curvature is much rounder. For the first model, a particularly fashionable oval shape has been chosen, which will undoubtedly be more difficult to construct.

The width of the second model is also slightly wider, but the design is not that much. The patent has shown the triple camera setup with three equal-size lenses, similar to the Mi MIX Alpha.

Significantly, Xiaomi also used a pop-up camera for the 360 display surround display model last year, which is equivalent to the left and right surround version of the above design.

Certainly, this is only a patent, and it is still unknown whether Xiaomi will release a similar model or not. Although Xiaomi released the Mix Alpha surround screen phone in September 2019, it was never sold publicly.
