Samsung and Nokia decided to extend their 5G patent agreement

Samsung and Nokia have mutually decided to extend their 5G patent agreement. Eventually, the Nokia firm recently signed a new multi-year contract to continue its terms with the Korean tech maker and utilize the 5G services and facilities.

According to the latest information, the previous petition has been expired in December last year. As a result of which both companies came together and kept their points of restructuring a new and more efficient program that can meet the requirements of both operators and consumers.

The details further reveal that Samsung has paid Nokia since January 1, for the 5G patent matter. However, none of the tech makers kept this point in the news headlines so far. Nokia contributes its inventions to open standards in exchange for licensing rights on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.

The Finnish telecommunications-equipment company claims that its patent portfolio includes about 20,000 patent families, of which more than 4,500 patent families are 5G essential patents. The agreement is consistent with the assumptions that Nokia has disclosed in the long-term Nokia Technologies outlook commentary.
