Along with 5G vRAN the ecosystem, parties are pushing VRAN towards a more scalable, flexible network that offers carrier-grade performance, management, and reliability.

Samsung 5G vRAN innovation

However, Samsung is the global leader in the fully virtualized 5G RAN market. The company’s success with its 5G VRAN solution worldwide has made Samsung the sole leading network vendor offering fully virtualized commercial RAN extensions in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Last year in December 2021, Samsung distributed its 5G vRAN solutions for large-scale commercial network services in the US, providing reliable mobile services to millions of users. The company continues to expand its 5G vRAN footprint, including recent milestones:

  • Achieved 2.25 Gbps on a single-user device in June 2021 with dual connectivity using VRAN and heavy MIMO radios in the C-band spectrum.
  • The U.S. Successfully launched commercial vRAN in C-band‌ in January 2022 2014 using 64T64R Massive MIMO radio.
  • Switched to the UK’s first 5G open RAN site and the world’s first 5G independent (SA) open RAN site in Japan – both powered by Samsung’s vRAN.

Moreover, Samsung’s VRAN solution completely separates the hardware and software in the baseband and supports open fronthaul interfaces. The company’s O-RAN compliant 5G VRAN solutions are commercially implemented on Japanese and UK networks, providing seamless integration with other vendor radios.
