Google Messages gets new look for links while keep reminders officially move to tasks

Google has been working hard to refresh the look and function of two of its most popular tools, making them easier to use. Users of Google Messages and Google Keep are currently seeing significant changes aimed at improving how we share information and handle our to-do lists.

First, let’s talk about Google Messages, the app used for texting. Google is rolling out a new design for how shared links and YouTube videos appear in your chat windows. Before, a link preview showed the full web address at the top, followed by a small picture, and then the page title and a small summary of the content.

The new look is much cleaner, though some useful details are now gone. The update brings a much bigger picture for the preview, taking up more space and reducing the need for crops. The title of the page is also larger and easier to read, set against a strong background. One small but nice change is that the website’s small icon (favicon) now appears next to the site’s address.

To achieve this cleaner look, the original full web link is now hidden entirely if your message contains only the link. While this tidies up the conversation, it means you lose the ability to see the exact URL at a glance. Even more noticeably, the short written description of the page is no longer included.

If you want to see the old previews or the full link, you can always change the settings in the Messages app to turn off previews completely. For those sharing YouTube videos, tapping on a link now opens the video right inside the Messages app using a small picture-in-picture player, instead of jumping straight to the YouTube app itself.

Separately, Google Keep is also undergoing a huge change that affects how you manage your tasks. The ability to set reminders within Keep is now officially moving to the Google Tasks system. This shift has been promised for a while and is now slowly making its way to all users. When the change reaches you, you will see a simple notice confirming that your “Reminders are now Google Tasks.”

Now, when you tap the little bell icon to set a reminder on a note, that reminder is stored directly in Google Tasks. It will show up in both the Google Tasks application and your Google Calendar, labeled clearly as “From Keep.” If you tap on this label, it quickly opens the original note for you.

However, this transition comes with one major difference: Google Tasks does not support reminders based on location. This means features that let you set an alert for when you get home or arrive at work are being removed. If you have any older location-based reminders, that location information will simply be placed inside the reminder’s description instead.

Because the reminders are now handled by the Tasks system, the Google Keep app itself will stop sending notifications for them. Instead, you need to rely on the Calendar or Tasks apps for those alerts. Users should also know that while they can complete a task from any of these apps, changing the title of a reminder must be done through Tasks or Calendar, not by simply changing the title of the Keep note.

Finally, a few technical limits are part of this change. The Tasks system can hold up to 100,000 tasks, and if you have more Keep reminders than that, the oldest ones won’t be moved over. Also, very long reminders will have their titles shortened after they migrate to Tasks. This migration, despite some minor limits, ensures that all your important to-dos are kept together in Google’s main task management platform.

Samsung’s new three-way Folding phone faces real-world toughness tests

Samsung recently released its first-ever triple-folding phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold. While the device is a marvel of engineering, recent hands-on tests show it might not be as sturdy as the company’s more traditional folding phones. In a series of intense durability challenges, the TriFold struggled when pushed to its limits. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which can handle quite a bit of pressure, the TriFold showed signs of damage relatively quickly.

One major test involved folding and unfolding the phone thousands of times. Samsung claims the device can survive 200,000 folds, but a live test by a group of tech reviewers showed the hinges starting to act up much sooner. One hinge began creaking after about 61,000 folds, and the second one followed at 121,000. By the time they hit roughly 145,000 folds, the hinges lost their “springiness,” making it hard for the phone to stay flat or close properly. While the screen itself kept working, the mechanical parts were clearly wearing out.

Beyond the folding tests, the phone also faced a “bend test” where it was forced in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, the TriFold didn’t survive this as well as previous models; the frame snapped and the screen pixels went dark with a reasonable amount of force. It seems that having more hinges and a thinner body makes the device more vulnerable to physical accidents.

Business-wise, Samsung isn’t too worried about these early hiccups or even the fact that they aren’t making much money on the TriFold right now. They view it as a “statement piece”—a way to show the world they can build technology that others can’t. The phone is only being sold in very small numbers, which helps keep it exclusive.

However, the company is feeling some pressure regarding its next big standard release, the Galaxy S26. With the costs of parts like processors and cameras going up, Samsung is looking for ways to keep prices fair for customers without losing money. While the TriFold is a cool look into the future, the success of their upcoming regular flagship phones is what really keeps the company steady. For now, the TriFold remains an impressive but delicate piece of tech for early adopters who are willing to be extra careful with it.
