OnePlus OxygenOS 12.1 Swipe up to search apps

If you have hundreds of apps installed on your smartphone, using the search bar is the fastest way to open the app you want, but it’s still a multi-step process. OnePlus goes a step further by adding a quick gesture that takes you directly to the search bar of the app drawer!

Swipe up to open the app drawer, hold down the middle for a second, and you’re done. Wait for the keyboard to appear automatically and start typing in the search bar at the top. It is enabled by default and works with older OnePlus phones.

OxygenOS 12.1 Parallel Apps

OnePlus OxygenOS 12.1 also offers you the Parallel Apps option to double the same app. The process of getting there is not easy, to say the least. This feature allows you to use the same app with different device profiles, but having one or two apps is often a pain.

OnePlus’ OxygenOS 12.1 is one of the few mobile skins that natively supports this feature, and OnePlus calls its version a parallel app. If you have two SIM cards, you can use it for one WhatsApp account with both phone numbers or run two instances of an app like Uber.

To access the customized list of supported applications, you need to press the Utilities heading in Settings. When you’re there, click on Parallel Programs. Then turn on the apps you want to copy, but be careful if you turn one off. In the parallel instance, the data is completely wiped out.

OnePlus OxygenOS 12.1 Live Caption

OxygenOS 12.1 Live Caption is very useful for almost everyone who is deaf or unable to amplify sound. Pixel smartphones pioneered this feature, but Google has rolled it out to other OEMs. The OnePlus is one of the few we’ve run across so far.

The volume control on your smartphone requires an additional button to turn on live subtitles on time. A live and detailed transcription of everything playing on the screen is displayed in the center. It works for the whole device even if the phone is turned off. It’s a handy feature that will make you wonder how you ever lived without it.
