TSMC said in February that it would spend approximately US$178 million to open a materials research subsidiary near Tokyo. At present, Ibi Power and TSMC declined to comment.

With the increasing progress of 5G networks, autonomous driving technology, data centers, and artificial intelligence, the demand for chips is expected to increase significantly and the production capacity is severely shorted.

Japan hopes that its companies can have better partnerships, so it intends to help its semiconductor manufacturers Strengthen ties with TSMC.
