ASM sold 70% of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines to TSMC: Report

A report on the development strategy of the semiconductor industry from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea, stating that the lithography machine manufacturer Asmar will invest US$212 million in Gyeonggi Province. Daohuacheng builds an extreme ultraviolet lithography machine remanufacturing plant and training center.

When reporting that Asmar will build an extreme ultraviolet lithography machine remanufacturing plant and training center in Hwaseong, The report also mentioned that although Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have introduced extreme ultraviolet lithography machines produced by Asmar, compared with TSMC, there is a big gap in the amount they get.

In the report that 70% of the extreme ultraviolet lithography machines currently produced by ASM are sold to TSMC, and only 30% are left to other manufacturers. Asimak is currently the only manufacturer in the world that can manufacture extreme ultraviolet lithography machines.

They have launched two generations of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines TWINSCAN NXE: 3400B and TWINSCAN NXE: 3400C. In the financial report for the third quarter of last year, Asmar also disclosed that they have finalized the specifications of the next-generation extreme ultraviolet lithography machine TWINSCAN NXE: 3600D, and plans to start shipments in the middle of this year.

Although it is currently the only manufacturer in the world that can manufacture extreme ultra violet lithography machines, Asmar’s current output of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines is not high. They delivered 26 units in 2019 and increased to 31 units last year. Two years of delivery The quantity did not exceed 40 units.

According to previous reports, TSMC, which is leading the chip manufacturing process and has obtained a large number of chip foundry orders, has indeed purchased a large number of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines from Asmarck. In September last year, the cumulative purchase of TSMC’s UV lithography machines will reach about 55 units by the end of this year.
