DXOMARK recently tested the Apple iPhone 13 Pro selfie camera. The report states that the selfie score of the Apple iPhone 13 Pro is 99, which is one of the best in DXOMARK’s selfie ranking.

However, the overall performance is similar to last year’s iPhone 12 series, but the iPhone 13 Pro scores high in selfie photos, thanks to accurate subject exposure, wide depth of field, and fine detail in highlights and indoor shots.

The iPhone 13 Pro is also one of the best devices in the selfie video category. Its video dynamic range is wide, target exposure is accurate, neutral white balance presents a natural and soothing skin tone, and the color sensitivity is excellent as well.

Moreover, the iPhone 13 Pro is listed under Apple’s flagship iPhone 13 Pro Max in the 2021 iPhone series, which is equipped with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display and up to 1TB of internal storage space.

It uses the same A15 Bionic chipset as the Pro Max and has the same three-camera setup. The 2021 iPhone models have the same front camera settings and offer the identical title specifications as the iPhone 12 series, a 1/3.6-inch sensor combined with an f/2.2 aperture fixed focus lens.

iPhone 13 Pro front camera specifications:

  • 12 MP 1/3.6″ sensor, equivalent focal length 23 mm, f/2.2-aperture lens
  • 3D sensor
  • Cinema mode (1080p, 30 fps) for recording videos with shallow depth of field
  • Use Dolby Vision to record HDR video up to 4K 60 fps; 4K video recording at 24/ 25/ 30/ 60 fps; 1080p HD video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps

The iPhone 13 Pro’s photo score is 102, which is one point better than the 12 Pro, thanks to accurate subject exposure, wide depth of field, and fine detail in highlights and indoor shots. But the 13 Pro has more noise than its predecessor.

The video difference is more pronounced (95 vs 93), and the iPhone 13 Pro becomes one of the best devices in this category, just one point short of the highest score. For video, Apple managed to increase the exposure, and the color sensitivity is now more stable. The new device also has a wider video dynamic range.
