Google released Private Compute Services as an app on Play Store

Google recently announced “Private Compute Core” at the I/O conference in May as an effective rebrand for “Device Personalization Services,” now called “Android System Intelligence.” It is followed by the “Private Computing Service” last month, which is now available as an application in the Google Play Store.

The Private Compute Core is where functions such as Live Caption, Now Playing, and Smart Reply works in a separate network mode in all Android and applications. This is important for your sensitive voice and language processing and ability to read notifications.

Android ensures that sensitive data processed in Private Compute Core is not shared with any applications unless you take action. For example, until you tap Smart response, the OS keeps your answer hidden from your keyboard and the app you type on.

In September, Private Compute Services was announced as a way for Android privacy applications to “use the cloud without compromising your privacy.” This may include downloading new ML models and expressions, as well as a catalog of the latest songs. Using PCS, these cloud updates can be done in the same private way.

Google today announced an update to its private computing service, and began to roll out a new green icon in the Google Play store, recommending an Android system intelligence. It jumped from version 1.0.3x to version 1.0.4x, and first appeared on Pixel devices on Android 12.

The screenshots listed provide a high-quality view, and then say “How to check your phone network connection and see how it keeps your information private, and why.”Moving forward, Google plans to publish the source code for Private Compute Services to allow external testing.
