MediaTek ranks first and Huawei marked sixth position in Q2 of 2021 in global chip market

Counterpoint has recently published a new report on the global smartphone processor market for the second quarter of 2021. As per the data report, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Apple secured the top three positions in the global market.

MediaTek leads the market with the highest market share of 38%. Thanks to its Dimensity 700 series, which dominated the 5G market, while the Helio P35 and G80 were popular in the LTE field.  According to the information, Huawei’s HiSilicon could only receive 3% of the market share and ranked sixth.

Qualcomm has gained a 32% share ranking second among all the top vendors. Mainly, the high-end and mid-range SoC have helped the company to gain enough market share in the Q2 of 2021. The high-end processors of Qualcomm including the 800 series are very popular and used by big OEMs such as Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and more.

Moving on, the Cupertino-based tech giant was ranked at number three with its highest sale of iPhone 12. While the fourth and fifth spots were captured by Samsung and Unisoc. Followed by Huawei’s HiSilicon at sixth position with just 3% of the overall market share.

The processor market has been facing a chip shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several OEMs have been affected and are forced to postpone their upcoming gadgets for a while. Huawei’s P50 series has been introduced in the second half of the year, which was supposed to come in the second quarter. While the Huawei Mate 50 may be shifted to the first half of 2022.

Meanwhile, Apple which is barely affected by the chip shortage will launch its next-generation iPhone 13 devices soon. These new iPhones will further increase its processor share.
