This year, IFA held as a Special Edition and is the first major global fair for consumer and home electronics that will physically take place since the pandemic from September 3 to 5.
A number of participants presented their opening Keynote including Qualcomm, BSH, and Huawei. Apart from that, Huawei’s show was quite cold compared to previous years, as there were no new products announced at the event. In the last year’s IFA, Huawei launched the first 5G embedded Kirin 990 processor and FreeBuds 3 wireless earbuds.
So what actually Huawei announced during its IFA keynote?
Walter Ji, President of Huawei Consumer BG Europe, presented Huawei’s so-called commitment to Europe and AI strategy for the products throughout his whole speech. Meanwhile, there was nothing special about his remarks.
Why only speech and no new products?
Only one reason, to provide clarification on its current business crisis in the region, as the U.S. Ban has hurt Huawei so badly and all aspects of its businesses including Telecom and especially the smartphone sector. Following its inclusion in the Entity List, Huawei stripped from purchasing chips and other important software services from the U.S. companies.
The ban also applied to Google Mobile Services, which is the backbone of Huawei’s mobile app ecosystem and affected its overseas sale very majorly due to the concerns on after purchase services and software support in new Huawei mobile devices.
This year, the U.S. increased the ban on Huawei, and this time, it completely blocked required chipset sales for its smartphone and other businesses. This action forced Huawei to drop from making new High-end Kirin chipsets and it may not be able to purchase new chipset from third-party sellers as well in the coming time.
What’s Next?
Huawei has lost access to required chipsets, Google Mobile Services and even have to stop the production of its own Kirin chips.
Looking at the current situation, Huawei has only one option and only one goal to survive on this road named “U.S. sanctions” and it won’t be easy for Huawei to keep on chasing this journey.
