NXP to use TSMC’s 16nm FinFET process tech to mass produce new processor

Dutch chip manufacturer NXP Semiconductors and TSMC jointly announced that they will use TSMC’s 16-nanometer FinFET process technology to mass-produce NXP’s S32G2 in-vehicle network processor and S32R294.

NXP Semiconductors is a semiconductor company headquartered in the Netherlands and has been established for more than 60 years. The company announced the launch of a new S32G vehicle network processor in January last year.

This processor is the world’s first processor that integrates traditional MCUs with ASIL D functional safety support, network acceleration, and high-performance application processors.

In January of this year, foreign media reported that due to the soaring demand for automobiles, Zhipu Semiconductor, Renesas Electronics, and other chip manufacturers are increasing the price of semiconductors used in automobiles and telecommunications equipment.

At that time, according to multiple sources, overseas chip manufacturers including NXP Semiconductors and STMicroelectronics required customers to pay 10% to 20% more.
