OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are getting OxygenOS 11/Android 11 beta [Download Now]

In collaboration with Google, OnePlus started the Android 11 beta program for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users. This build offers access to an early build of Android 11. The latest Android 11 beta is targeted at early adopters and developers so that they can create and optimize apps for the platform as well as report early feedback.

OnePlus says:

With a combination of smooth software experience and powerful hardware, OnePlus 8/8 Pro is primed to get you started on Android 11. Now download the Android 11 Beta for access to some of the latest Android features, and get your apps ready for the upcoming update.

The original OnePlus forum post of the Android 11 Beta and with download links doesn’t seem to load at this moment. The developer preview for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro website is still live.

There are a number of problems (check below), we advise you to not install the Android 11 Beta on your OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro. There are also major risks in bricking your device if you do not proceed or follow the installation instructions correctly.

The company said:

As it is still in an early stage of development, we do not recommend flashing this ROM if you have little experience in software development. Proceed at your discretion.

In addition, if you are using the OnePlus 8 series devices on T-Mobile and Verizon network, your device won’t be compatible with the Android 11 beta.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro Android 11 Upgrade/Android 10 Downgrade Instructions:

MP version = Stable official version, DP version = Developer Preview version, OBT Version = Open Beta version

MP and OBT to DP upgrade guide—via Local OTA Update

Note: This upgrade method will erase all the contents of the phone, please be sure to backup first.

  • Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  • Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
  • Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  • After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  • Update successful.

DP to MP rollback guide – via Local OTA update

Note: This upgrade method will erase all the contents of the phone, please be sure to backup first.

  • Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  • Copy the Rollback package to the phone storage.
  • Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding
  • installation package -> Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  • After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  • Update successful.

List of known issues with Android 11 beta on the OnePlus 8 series:

  • All data will be cleared while flashing the build
  • Face unlock is unavailable
  • Google Assistant (“OK Google”) does not work
  • Video calling does not work
  • Certain UI screens look less than desirable
  • Some apps may not function as expected
  • System stability issues
