OxygenOS 13 vs ColorOS 13: Always On Display (AOD)

For years, OnePlus hoped to add support for Always-On Display, which eventually came with OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11. The feature has evolved since then, and to be fair to OnePlus, its execution has been solid overall.

Well, OnePlus said that OxygenOS 13 is all-around convenience, designed for those of us who lead fast and hard lives. Timely progress tracking keeps you on track with your grocery deliveries.

It promises minimalistic icons, stylish animations, and different sizes and textures. OxygenOS 13 also plans to change the colors of the system depending on how long the device has been in use. For example, a darker shade at the end of the day.

A great example is Spotify’s latest Always-On Display widget. This feature intelligently displays the playlist so that you can easily control your favorite songs. This versatile AOD is music to your ears. However, if you use music streaming services, you can enable new widgets that appear when the feature is always on.

The new series of always-on display images, called “Homeland,” depict powerful scenes of wild animals in nature. Always-on display animations reveal changes in the homes where animals live, based on daily temperature changes asking you to pay attention to climate change and the Earth we live on together.

While the ColorO is now a unique Canvas AOD feature available for Oppo smartphones. Even Design’s Insights feature is also available in ColorOS 13. This is not the end there are various widgets and customization options available for Oppo and OnePlus owners.

Oppo and OnePlus should stop this controversy by claiming that ColorOS and OxygenOS are different builds. There may be internal differences, but at least functionally the two are currently identical. A part of OnePlus’ identity has been sacrificed, and for diehard fans, the lack of transparency is not only disappointing but disrespectful.
