Samsung and KDDI to Bring 5G vRAN to Japan

Recently, Samsung announced that the company will use its cloud-based Radio Access Network (vRAN) solutions for the mid-band spectrum over KDDI’s 5G network. Samsung and KDDI have been collaborating on advanced research on vRAN, the new 5G drive in the KDDI network.

Just now, companies successfully completed the first 5G Standalone (SA) phone using Samsung vRAN and other 5G Massive MIMO vendors, which are compatible with O-RAN. Powered by Samsung’s vRAN, the KDDI 5G network will deliver a unique performance, enabling KDDI users to experience the full power of 5G.

Leading vRAN Innovation

Samsung has been at the forefront of vRAN’s global leadership, launching its fully developed 5G RAN by 2020, followed by a successful 5G vRAN commercial launch in the US In June 2021, the company was selected by a major European company to bring VRAN to the UK.

Samsung recently demonstrated its vRAN capabilities to support Massive MIMO mid-band, multi-gigabit speeds. The company also announced the completion of a 5G vRAN end-to-end C-Band test in the live network area, demonstrating a vRAN performance comparable to that of traditional hardware-based devices.

Samsung Networks pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions including chipsets, radios, and content. With ongoing research and development, Samsung is leading the industry to develop 5G networks with its market-leading product from RAN. The company currently provides network solutions to mobile phone owners who bring connections to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.
