Now the Galaxy S20 series is getting Google’s Live Caption feature. This is announced by the official Twitter Android account. The Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are the first non-Pixel smartphone to have the Live Caption feature.

Google unveiled the Live Caption feature during Google I/O 2019 with the Google Pixel 4.

What is Live Caption?

With a single tap, Live Caption automatically captions media playing on your phone. Use it on videos, podcasts, and audio messages – even stuff you record yourself.

How to use Live Caption?

To turn Live Caption on or off:

  1. Press the volume button.
  2. Under the volume controls, tap Live Caption.

When Live Caption is turned on, captions appear whenever you have media playing on your device.

Tips for using Live Caption:

  • Expand or contract the caption box: Double-tap.
  • Move the caption box: Touch and hold, then drag up or down.
  • Hide captions and turn off Live Caption: Drag the caption box off the bottom of your screen.

How to change Live Caption settings?

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Sound and then Live Caption.
  3. Under Settings, view or change these settings:
    • Turn Live Caption on or off.
    • Hide or show profanity.
    • Hide or show sound labels, such as laughter and applause.
    • Hide or show the Live Caption icon in volume control.

Note: To change the caption size, style, and color, you can go to caption preferences.

Notes:

  • When the media is playing, Live Caption uses more battery. Live Caption automatically turns off in battery saver mode.
  • Captions are currently available for English only.
  • Captions might be unavailable for some media since media providers can opt-out of sharing their audio stream with the phone’s operating system.
  • Live Caption works best on audio with clear speech and low background noise.
  • Live Caption doesn’t work on music, phone calls, or VOIP.
  • Live Caption doesn’t use mobile data or an internet connection. All audio and captions are processed on the device and are never stored or sent to Google.
