Samsung LTPS TFT Micro LED Smart TV is about to go into mass production

According to the latest report, Samsung is trying to reduce the production cost of micro LED TVs by adopting LTPS TFT panels instead of using the current PCB method. These first LTPS TFT microLED TVs will likely be available by the end of the year, at even more affordable prices.

Moreover, Samsung now plans to start producing new micro LED TVs in the third quarter of 2022. The company is expected to produce TV models in three sizes: 89 inches, 101 inches, and 114 inches. Despite Samsung’s efforts to lower the price of micro LEDs by switching to LTPS TFT panels, the three upcoming TVs will still cost more than 100 million won (about $77,164).

According to reports, Samsung’s small 89-inch micro LED TV based on LTPS TFT technology will be listed in South Korea, priced at about 80,000 US dollars. Larger models won’t come cheap. The 101-inch and 114-inch models are priced at about $90,000 and $100,000 respectively.

Samsung seems to have achieved its goal and has slashed the price of micro LEDs significantly compared to the previous generation. For reference, the existing 110-inch version is priced at about $130,000, and the 110-inch. Even so, micro LED TVs to have a long way to go before they can get anywhere near the price of Neo QLED.
