Samsung removed Galaxy S8 from software update schedule

The story of the Galaxy S8 is now over because you won’t see more software updates in this old flagship member. The Galaxy S8 series has been removed from the list according to the Samsung update page that showed eligible devices to update.

However, some variants of S8 are still planned. For example, as an exception to Samsung’s latest update strategy, S8 Lite is still updated every six months, while S8 Active is eventually updated every quarter.

When it came back, Samsung only updated the Galaxy S8 every two years. Therefore, not being supported by the update will not cause huge losses. At the same time, it is still a signal that the life of the device is about to end.

Although it is worth mentioning that it has been four years since the series debuted, and the latest update that the S8 grabbed was the April 2021 security patch.

Therefore, it is not like Samsung suddenly showing the way out of the device, because it has actually been retired due to older hardware and software features, which makes this feature not need to undertake further updates.

Samsung Galaxy S8 specifications

Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones were early phones with minimal bezels, which Samsung called “infinite displays.” However, these devices have 5.8-inch or 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED displays, which are still one of the best-looking panels so far.

In addition, the dual-pixel technology of the S8 phone still cannot match current camera-centric phones because it can click on stunning photos with extremely high definition and color accuracy.

Don’t forget that these phones also introduced us to Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby. However, after getting a lot of updates, it still can’t compare with the interactivity of Google Assistant.

In addition, the Snapdragon 835 / Exynos 8895 processor will make the Galaxy S8 still available in 2021. Recall that these chipsets were the flagship products of that era and still provided some reasonable performance in terms of overall user experience. In addition, with the help of an iris scanner and a rear fingerprint sensor, the phone can still provide sufficient security.

Finally, the end of software support for Galaxy S8 devices is actually the end of an era. It opens the door to the advancement of modern technology, and we are focusing on these technologies in the current Galaxy S21 flagship store. Therefore, as fans of Samsung Electronics, we should thank the Galaxy S8, which shows a new perspective of using smartphones.
