Samsung smart TVs will continue to operate on Tizen OS

At the 2021 I/O conference, Google and Samsung announced the integration of Tizen OS and Wear OS to develop a unified wearable platform. Now, it has been confirmed that the next generation of Galaxy Watches will run Google’s Wear operating system. So, has Tizen OS stopped?

Do not! Samsung recently revealed that its own Tizen operating system will continue to exist and will continue to be used with future smart TVs. As Tizen OS is widely used in Samsung’s smart TVs, some media reporters asked whether the company will also abandon the system on TVs.

Samsung officially explained that its partnership with Google only revolves around smartwatches and has nothing to do with Tizen OS on Samsung TVs. A Samsung spokesperson said: “Tizen is still the default platform for our smart TV development.”

According to the company’s data, its smart TV sales accounted for 31.8% of the world last year, maintaining its position as the world’s largest TV brand for 15 consecutive years. In addition, 12.7% of smart TVs worldwide are equipped with Samsung’s Tizen OS, which is the most commonly used smart TV operating system.
