These 3 games saw a major increase in downloads after PUBG Mobile ban in India

On September 2, 2020, the Indian government’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite.

PUBG Mobile was the biggest mobile game in India with over 50 million monthly active players. The mobile version of this game is developed by China’s Tencent Games, while the desktop version of the game is made by South Korea’s Bluehole.

What about the PUBG Mobile users? They are now moving to alternatives, searching for the same gaming experience.

After the ban on PUBG Mobile in the country, other gaming apps such as Garena Free Fire, Ludo King, and Call of Duty, are gaining an increase in the download numbers.

According to the data published by Sensor Tower (via entrackr), from September 2 to September 5, the top three downloaded games across iOS and Android apps are the Garena Free Fire, Ludo King, and Call of Duty. In gaming categories, these three apps were leading on the Google Play Store in India since September 2.

Garena Free Fire game was developed by Singapore’s Sea Ltd, while the Call of Duty game by the Activision Blizzard, a US tech company. Chinese Tencent used to hold a 5% stake in Activision through its subsidiary TiMi Studios. However, Activision had recently parted ways with Tencent and TiMi.

1 Garena Free Fire – 2.1 million downloads

 

Garena Free Fire saw the highest increase in the downloads from India in the first four-day after the ban of PUBG Mobile. It registered more than 2.1 million downloads in just four days. The game has more than 500 million downloads on Google Play Store.

India’s Ludo King is on the third position in downloads, it received 1.52 million downloads. Thanks to the ban on PUBG Mobile. The game became very popular in India as a casual game.
