TSMC planning to increase monthly production capacity of 5nm process to 150,000 by the end of 2021

TSMC’s current most advanced 5nm chip process technology was put into production last year. This year is the second year of mass production. However, the revenue contributed by the first quarter declined from the previous quarter. The proportion of revenue has been reduced from 20% to 14%.

Calculated by revenue percentage and TSMC’s quarterly revenue, the 5nm process brought TSMC US$1.809 billion in revenue in the first quarter, down from US$2.536 billion in the fourth quarter of last year.

Although the revenue of the 5nm process declined in the first quarter, as TSMC’s current most advanced chip manufacturing process, they will continue to increase the production capacity of this process.

Sources in the industry chain revealed that TSMC will increase the output of the 5nm process starting in the second quarter, and its monthly production capacity will be increased to 150,000 wafers at the end of the year.

It is worth noting that foreign media said in a report in October last year that TSMC expects that its 5nm process chip shipments in the fourth quarter of last year will exceed 150,000 wafers. According to sources, the monthly production capacity of TSMC’s 5nm process was increased to a maximum of 150,000 wafers at the end of this year, which is close to the production capacity in the fourth quarter of last year.

In addition, in February, industry chain sources revealed that the monthly production capacity of TSMC’s 5nm process technology reached 90,000 wafers in the fourth quarter of last year, and it plans to increase to 105,000 wafers in the first half of this year, and increase in the second half of the year. To 120,000 wafers.
