The “Energy Recommendations” feature is located under Settings > System > Power, and on this page, Windows 11 shows how to reduce the user’s carbon footprint and make the PC more energy efficient, including turning off the screen and going to sleep faster, setting the power mode for optimal efficiency, disable screensavers, and turn on dark mode.

A “green score” is also provided, and the user’s score will increase for completing the relevant task. If the user fully accepts the “Energy Recommendations”, then clicking the “Apply All” button will make the computer greener. The page also provides a link to a support article describing Microsoft Edge’s energy efficiency mode.

Windows 11 Energy RecommendationIt’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first attempt to make Windows 11 greener. When users change screens and sleep timers, the operating system displays warnings about increased carbon emissions, plus it tries to install available updates when more green energy is available on the grid.

While these changes may seem inconsequential, when applied to a market of more than 1.2 billion devices, even small efficiency improvements can make all the difference.
