OnePlus is one step ahead of Google in Android OS updates rollout

OnePlus has raised its Android OS updates game level and is moving one step ahead of Google. The company has recently upgraded its update policy and it looks like the new changes will benefit OnePlus smartphone users a lot. Although there are a few demerits, still the company is doing better than Google’s regulations.

As per the latest input revealings, OnePlus has promised to deliver 4 major Android OS updates and 5 years of regular security patches. Accordingly, this change will increase the lifespan of a device and will help in maintaining the durability of the phone’s system for a longer time.

Making the statement more firm, the head of software products at OnePlus – Gary Chen uttered the following words at a recently held event in London:

“Starting from 2023, we’ll be offering four generations of OxygenOS and five years of security updates on selected devices.”

It’s worth mentioning that these new pinches are only available for the upcoming flagship models, which is the only flaw here. As a result, OnePlus smartphones launching in 2023 are the ones that will adopt this new plan. Meanwhile, the previous handsets will remain stagnant with the old software update policy.

As of the latest additions, we could see the new update policy coming into existence with the OnePlus 11 series.

Google is covering only three major updates

Anyhow, this is far better than that of Google which is still working on year-old regulations. According to the official website, the latest model – the Pixel 7 series will get major updates until October 2025, while the security updates will continue till October 2027.

Accurately, there will 3 years of major Android OS software updates and 5 years of security patch support. Being one of the top tech makers in the world, Google is still offering just 3 major updates to its high-end Pixel smartphones which is a little disappointing for users.

Another significant factor is, while Google rolls out monthly security patches for its devices, OnePlus offers security patches bimonthly to its models. Consequently, the overall aspect shows that at some point, Google is lagging behind OnePlus in terms of Android OS updates.

New Changes with OxygenOS 13.1

On the flip side, OnePlus is also preparing the next version of its operating system – OxygenOS 13.1. And if we go with the details, the upcoming build will bring numerous effective changes to the privacy and security features on board.

It seems like OnePlus has a lot to offer its users in the coming year. With reflective tweaks in the updates policy to a new version of OxygenOS, OnePlus smartphone users will get several a bunch of surprises in the year 2023.
