Canalys stated the global smartphone market data for the third quarter of 2021. Due to the severe shortage of global chips and the difficulty of suppliers to face the requirements of equipment manufacturers, global smartphone shipments in the quarter fell by 6% from the previous quarter.

In terms of market share, Samsung still firmly occupies the No. 1 position, with a global share of 23%. Apple ranked second, with a market share of 15%, an increase of 1% compared to the same period last year, exceeding Xiaomi to rank second. Moreover, Canalys chief analyst Ben Stanton said that smartphone manufacturers are maximizing production, while chip foundries are also increasing service prices in order to curb excessive stockpiling. However, according to the latest news from TSMC, the shortage of chips will not be relieved until at least 2022.

In addition, Ben Stanton also said that as China’s Double Eleven and Western Black Friday promotions are about to begin, smartphone manufacturers are stepping up stocking to ensure sales profits.
