Samsung raises its LCD panel production due to massive demand in South Korea

Last month, Samsung Display announced that it will extend the production of LCD panels for TVs and monitors in South Korea. The company took this decision due to the increasing market of home appliances because of the Coving-19 pandemic.

According to the new info, Samsung Display’s delay in closing the LCD panel plant will increase the production area in the second quarter of next year by 2.2%. However, there is a risk of product shortage in Q2 2021 because of rising demand. After the decision for raising the panel’s production, the overall supply and demand are expected to maintain a balance.

Adding to this, a survey has shown that the LCD production unit of Samsung Display will still have one 7th-generation line and two 8.5-generation production lines in operation until Q1 2021. It is also expected that only one 8.5-generation line will remain in normal production until the fourth quarter of 2021.

Samsung Display plans to continue to produce liquid crystal display (LCD) panels until the end of 2021, which will increase the risk of oversupply in the second half of next year, but supply and demand will be roughly balanced in the second quarter of next year.
