Apple watchOS 8.1 update enhances fall detection algorithm, supports AirPods 3

Apple started releasing the official version of the watchOS 8.1 update (internal version number: 19R570). This is the first major version of the watchOS 8 operating system released in September 2021.

The watchOS 8.1 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 and later, and will be launched one month after the release of watchOS 8.

The following is the changelog/update log for the watchOS 8.1 update:

watchOS 8.1 Changelog:

  • The algorithm for fall detection during physical training has been enhanced, and the option to enable fall detection only during physical training has been added (Apple Watch Series4 and subsequent models)
  • Supports COVID-19 vaccination card, which allows you to show verifiable vaccination information from your Apple wallet
  • “Always display” may not accurately display the time when the wrist is lowered in some users (Apple Watch Series5 and later models)

watchOS 8.1

Users who install the update must make sure that the Apple Watch is charging and within the communication range of the iPhone connected to the wireless LAN.

Apple stated that using  AirPods 3  requires an Apple device running iOS 15.1, iPad OS 15.1, watchOS 8.1, tvOS 15.1, or macOS Monterey.
