Some Huawei EMUI 11 users facing Google Play Protect error problem

Although there has never been an official conflict between Huawei and Google, but being a US-based firm, Google had to withdraw its software services support from Huawei smartphones. In these circumstances, the Chinese phone maker introduced HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) as an alternative to GMS (Google Mobile Services) for users.

Nevertheless, it’s a temporary solution as global users still rely on EMUI system software, which is a custom software skin for Google’s open-source mobile operating system – Android. But now it seems that the leading Internet service provider wants to completely block Chinese users and smartphones from accessing GSpace.

Notably, users of Huawei branded phones have explored various alternative ways to use GMS as it is undoubtedly a huge service platform with a huge user base. In this case, recent reports suggest that users accessing GMS on Huawei EMUI 11 phones are facing Google Play Protect error.

It is well known that Huawei phones prior to the Huawei P30 series cannot access the GMS app due to the lack of a Google Play Protect certificate. Therefore, Huawei phone users on EMUI 10.1 or EMUI 11 have to sideload these apps through different third-party solutions which are not secure, but consumers, most of the time, have success in porting Google apps to the respective phones. It is a kind of scanning program to detect the application being installed on an Android phone. It ensures the safety of devices by alerting users to harmful apps and sometimes even deleting them. If an app shows Play Protected error, it means that it has some potential to harm the device or violate software policy.

Coming back to the topic, this is not the first time that Huawei EMUI 11 device is showing such a problem as it is not an officially certified Google Android certified device or software.

Most interestingly, this is not a universal case, as other phones running EMUI 10 like Huawei Mate 30 Pro are not displaying this error after sideloading G apps and running fine. On the other hand, users can still block notifications using IceBox or use Hybrid GMS from Huawei AppGallery.
