Microsoft Windows 10 latest update brings a new bug

Microsoft released the KB5003173 cumulative update for the Win10 20H2/2004 version this month, focusing on fixing the problem of high CPU usage. Recently, overseas users have reported that this update has a problem that cannot be installed, but it can be solved by reinstalling the new version of the Edge browser.

Some overseas users have recently encountered audio bugs after the update. The user stated that the malfunction seems to happen randomly, and occasional sharp noises are encountered during the game.

In addition, the output volume of the sound card may be much lower than usual. Users said that the internal audio of the Edge browser does not appear to be affected.

Some users said on the Reddit forum that after installing the KB5003173 update, there was an audio device failure (perhaps related to the Dolby 5.1 channel output), and the sound card would output high-frequency noise.

In addition to the Dolby audio output function, when some users are still using certain applications, the sound card outputs squeaking sounds.

To fix this failure, users can uninstall the update manually, or follow the steps below:

  • Try to use the browser to play music.
  • Right-click the volume button on the taskbar in the lower right corner, and select “Spatial Sound Effects” as other options.

Microsoft will release the next cumulative update on June 8, which is expected to fix this bug.
