Xiaomi announced the new update policy for the first time on 9 September 2021. The policy states that the new Xiaomi phones will receive three-generation Android system upgrades and four years of security patches.



The company is regularly rolling out two Android updates and a three-year quarterly security update for its mid-range and flagship devices. So this is a big change in Xiaomi’s software update policy.

Xiaomi 11TWell, this is the first time a new plan was announced a few days before the release of the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro. However, later the company also made an announcement on Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE.
