It has been less than one week for Apple to release iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 for its compatible devices and now Apple released the first public beta of its upcoming iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2.
The update brings some new changes and upgrades to existing iOS 14. iOS 14.2 introduces a new Music Recognition control in the control center. It uses the Apple-owned Shazam app to recognize the music playing around you and even works while you’re wearing your Airpods. The update adds this control in the Control center so, that you can easily access it.
You can add this feature in your control center through the Settings app:
- Open Settings
- Open Control Center
- Tap ‘Customize Controls’
- Tap on the Shazam icon to initiate a single recognition
The update changes the interface of ‘Now Playing’ widgets for the Control center. Now Playing widgets will now show you recently played albums that you can play when there is no music playing. It also adds a new redesigned interface for Airplay, which makes it easier to play music across multiple devices that support Airplay.
Apple also made some upgradations in the Magnifier app for people with low vision known as ‘People Detection’. It uses the camera of the iPhone to let you know how far the other people are. It can also be used for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The update is available to the public beta testers who have signed for Apple’s beta testing program. The update can be downloaded after installing the proper certificate from the public beta website on an iOS device.
Note: iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPad (8th generation) are not supported in iOS & iPadOS 14.2 betas at this time. Support will be added soon.
Apps built with the iOS 14 SDK that import SwiftUI and StoreKit in the same file will crash on launch. Attempting to build with the iOS 14.2 SDK will result in an error.
